Part II: “What’s Going On with the Chris Loves Julia Room Makeover?”

Now that we’ve reviewed how we got to where we are with the Charlotte House Revival x Chris Loves Julia room makeover, let’s dive a little deeper into what’s left & ongoing!

If you’re just joining us, the Chris Loves Julia Room Makeover Giveaway is currently In-Progress. We’re posting live updates throughout the week, so be sure you’re following our Stories on Instagram or Facebook.

Here comes the fun part – where we get to take over the living room makeover! In truth, we are definitely on the “Five Kids” schedule of renovation pacing. Progress has been slow but steady, and I’d rather the pace be slow than have to go backwards.

The time has been well spent, however, and we are so super excited about all the things we’ve already accomplished, picked out, and have planned for the living room.

Here’s a recap of our major highlights, plus a few things we have left on the agenda for the Chris Loves Julia Room Makeover Giveaway:

What’s Already Done

Revived Windows & Reinstalled Our Original Oak Shutters

Jim weatherized the leaky living room windows and made some additional repairs. The window sill has finally been stained and finished – and it’s come a looong way since we first poked this bear.

We also cleaned up and reinstalled the original hardware and interior shutters we found in the basement. We still need to have two (out of 20) remade, but we’re putting that job on the backburner for now.

We found all but two of the original oak shutters
Luckily we had all four for this large front window

Partnered with ROOM & BOARD for Furniture

We held an exhaustive search for furniture that would work in our off-centered space. Jim and I were so impressed with the style & customization options offered by Room & Board, we reached out to them and were thrilled when they agreed to become our furniture partner for the room.

Customized Pieces with Their (Free!) Design Services

The customization options with Room & Board gave us so much to choose from. We were able to order samples and swatches in advance and create pieces that would work for our needs. Design services are always free with Room & Board, so we had all our product questions answered by one of their design professionals. (Thanks, Joe!)

All the new pieces have already arrived, and you can catch our First Impressions about them here.

Toddler tested…
Dad-nap approved.

Sourced & Purchased New Goodies

Since we’ll finally have an actual TV in the room, we’re also adding some in-wall audio components and additional speakers. Those will hide just perfectly in the new storage cabinet we got from Room & Board.

There’s also a box full of new décor items and textiles waiting for us that we’ve been collecting both locally and online. While we still have a few minor items to source, the only large item we’re still awaiting delivery on is the rug. Hopefully it’ll be here any day!

What’s Left to Do for the Chris Loves Julia Room Makeover

We are currently shoulder-deep in the makeover, so we’re hoping to knock out the remaining big stuff over the next few days. Then we’ll start to add all the personality that makes the room really “ours” with all the little things…

Finishing the Walls

It look literal hours to tape off all this woodwork, but I’m glad we prepped for limewash better for this than we do for paint. We’re doing a two-layered approach to the limewash color and are already really liking how things are looking.

The first, darker coat is already wrapped up. Once I finish the second, lighter coat (and a coat of sealer?) we can start getting things back in the room and on the walls. You can find all our paint & supplies here, and see our video on Limewash for First Timers below ↓

(Re-)Assembling the Space

As soon as the walls are done, we can put all the furniture pieces back into their new homes. We’ll also mount the new TV and set up our new bookcases. This will be a custom installation featuring our gorgeous new Room & Board custom bookcases, as well as a pair of additional cabinets we had already sourced from elsewhere.

Making Some Quick Furniture Tweaks

I’m all about making things work – and look – how you want them. I’ll be a putting a new finish on a record cabinet I picked up from FB Marketplace. I’m also rigging a tiny, pretty side table I bought online to make it more stable for the kids. Finally, I’ve decided on a wood furniture wax to help protect our dreamy new Room & Board accent chair.

Décor, Baby!

Finally we’ll decorate the space by filling the space & cabinets with all our own stuff, plus some other pretty goodies we’ve picked out to give the room a fresh, finished look. Stick around to see everything we got!
